Game of Thrones by Asidpk Game of Thrones by Asidpk
They are two things I was trying to achieve with this painting, the first is trying to paint in a similar style of ingres mixed with other influences. Second trying to depict a scene in showing Sansa being completley vulnerable, fragile, upset and controlled and used by the hands of murderers and liars. She is not my favorite character in the book but I just feel so damn bad for her because of the things she goes through. Specifically the scene is from the 3rd book A Storm of Swords, after the wedding of Sansa and Tyrion and drinking cups of wine Tyrion tells Sansa that he has to do his "Duty" and consummate the marriage..... and this is what he will see that will ultimatley make his decision. Im not going to spoil what he does do just read all the books oh god there so good!

I did use a reference but did alterations and also covered her up by adding the blanket because I wanted the scene to seem elegant and not be a pervert since Sansa is only a teen the original ref is completely nude.

Done in Corel Painter

Stages of the painting can be seen here

You could have credited David Bellemere's editorial for Treats magazine, where you took fanny François' pic from posing for Treat magazine.…

Apart from that, BEAUTIFUL work.

PS: the pic below Fanny's original photo has also been used to portray Sansa by MotherOfArt, another artist here on deviantArt.

I love the "historical" feel of this painting. It also captures and conveys the mood very, very well.

This pic just brought tears to my eyes, you've captured her vulnerability and suffering so perfectly here.

I don't have a problem with Asidpk having used an existing photo, the end result is beautiful, so much so that I shared it myself.

My problem was the reference to Ingres (19th-20th century French Neoclassical painter),
1) which I took at face-value as I had no reason to doubt the artist here (who would know better than the artist herself where her inspiration had came from?!).
2) which totally ignored Bellemere, diminishing his worth when there was nothing wrong with it. Maybe Ingres was more glamorous?

...the  photo below the one used for this piece has also been used to portray Sansa before, by another artist here on deviantArt, MotherOfArt:…

um you do know that I put in the description that I used a reference right?
FranBianchi Featured By Owner Edited Jun 16, 2014  Hobbyist General Artist
If by "reference" you mean tracing a copyrighted photography by David Bellemere (which you did NOT mention in the description), I don't think that's an excuse.
Asidpk Featured By Owner Jun 16, 2014  Hobbyist General Artist
First off it was a hybrid of tracing and painting still having to draw to change certain things like the features and added elements. If your accusing me of tracing so what then, artists have used tools such as the camura obscura to help aid in their art, so why would the tools in photoshop be any different? Second, Im a hobbyist painter and not selling to make a profit of anykind, therefore I am not interested in ownership of these paintings I have not sold any paintings or prints at least not this one. Third I thought I changed enough elements from the painting and the photo to make it
FranBianchi Featured By Owner Jun 16, 2014  Hobbyist General Artist
Changing some minor details doesn't hide the fact that you made an exact, blatant copy of another artist's work without giving him any credit whatsoever, and saying that you used your own tools or that you aren't selling your painting doesn't make it any less questionable. Do you even know the difference between using reference and tracing? Did you really think you could get away with this?
Korpinarhi Featured By Owner Jun 23, 2014
I have to agree with you. If Asidpk would have asked a permission to use this photo or _at least_ linked the photo used for tracing in the description, it wouldn't be that big deal.

To be honest, I have to wonder the amount of favourites this work has got. The brush technique is more or less crappy, colourwork is pretty poor and everything seems like just copy-pasted together. I have to give credit for the vast usage of symbolism, though.

um yeah whatever buddy, tell that to the artists one of which includes Banksy that actually take whole images of pictures and sell paintings of them using images of celebrities. award winning photographs and so forth. I could careless about your rules good day.

I'd say you not only capture the likeness but the age (the assumed age any way) and the mood of the scene.

I really love this.  It's a more traditional pose, but I think it really works well for Sansa.
For me, the expression on her face is what makes this perfect.

I didn't even notice the bloody hands at first.  I think that if you want it to look more realistic, adding some shine and contrast to the blood itself would work.  But it also seems fine to me as it is, just stylized.
rachelkpoulain Featured By Owner Feb 9, 2014  Student Digital Artist
Her fingertips and nails really stand out to me for some reason. The blood dripping from the hands could use some work, though.
black-wolf-devil Featured By Owner Feb 16, 2014  Hobbyist Writer
I totally agree. Everything is great except the bloody hands and the red attracts attention towards them.

Beautiful. I love the trinity of colors and how the light blue can be found in her blanket as well as in her eyes. the red theme is also very capturing and gives this innocent beauty a horrific touch!
